Art Rock at The Armory Art Center in WPB, May 7

I have a thing for stationary. Heavy paper, the bite of the letterpress, neat iconography, clever bon mots (monograms, gilt edges, filigree [apogee, pedigree, perigee...]) Yum! Not that I’m a big letter or card writer. I guess that’s why it’s a ‘thing’. So… Some people go to West Palm’s Art Rock to get a taste of the South Florida D.I.Y art and indie craft scene. Not I. I go for stationary. But, more on that later.

O, Miami Event: James Franco, Poetry and Persona at New World Center April 29

Navigating the invisible line between high and low culture always leads to this place: a pop-culture name, academically lauded practitioners of some art form, a vaunted public venue, and audience members who, privileged themselves, pay too much for the privilege of attending the evening’s events… That about sums up last night’s O, Miami event Poetry and Persona at the New World Center. What Comes Next?

Last winter, when Steve approached me with the idea of writing about art for REVmiami.com, I was pretty hesitant. Art is so subjective, and, though I have my own experiences (as a photographer) and interests (skeletal and obscure), it didn’t seem that I would have much to say that would matter to anybody else.
