Ladies and gentlemen, I came down with a horrible flu over Thanksgiving weekend and I am really behind in my Art Week “to do list”. The good news is, I was well enough to make it out last night. The bad news is after going out last night I backslid and I feel horrible as I type.
I digress, allow me to get back on track. Last night, after getting home from our day jobs, my lady and I got out the door and straight into a Lyft. I realized how lucky we were that Camilo was driving against the grain of stop and go traffic to Aqua, while everyone else was slowly inching towards Wynwood or Little Haiti.
We arrived to the boutique hotel in record time and walked throughout the property. The courtyard had a full service bar and large sculptures; while the rooms, which typically occupied by guests, were converted into mini galleries. We encountered a decent turn out but not overly crowded as I imagine things were at the Convention center or on the other side of Biscayne Bay. The galleries represented a melting pot, from Seoul to San Francisco and Amsterdam to Atlanta. The artists and art enthusiasts were friendly and we found the art to be interesting and relatively speaking, economically priced.
Next up was a stroll over to the Albion Hotel to meet with friends participating in the Mezcal themed event: Art by the Bottle, sponsored by Viejo Indecente. The bar was packed with patrons viewing the decorated bottles and sipping libations mixed with the same Mezcal. We met more friendly folks including some of the featured artists.
Early this morning while reflecting back on the night I feel blessed knowing that people like those we encountered exist. My sickness once again subsiding I remember that karma is real and if you are nice to people good things happen for everyone. Get out there check out Art Week, send good vibes, and talk to good people! To be continued….
