Nearing the end of my flu, or whatever this ailment has morphed into, the plan last night was to stay around the Wynwood neighborhood and see as much as we could prior to the closing of the bigger fairs. We are fortunate to live close enough to walk to the Midtown tents.
While we waited for some friends to scoot over to meet us, we popped into Superfine! The Fairest of the Fairs. The good people at Superfine, whose main base is up in the Little River District, made a temporary space out of a Crossfit gym. I was super-impressed with what they accomplished inside the gymnasium, the art was hip and affordable like no other fair I have been to. They even established a backyard hang out spot with delicious food and beverage vendors including Vagabond and Naomi’s Garden.
Once our friends showed up we walked across the street to Art Miami. This fair is a Goliath, comprised of I can’t even determine how many different tents. If you plan to come here, give yourself plenty of time because there is much to see and the hours are 11am-8pm on Saturday and 11-6pm on Sunday. Art Miami has some very pricey and notable artists including Dali, Koontz, and Alex Katz; which I guarantee to have in my collection once I win the lottery. We ventured from booth to booth exploring some really great pieces and once in a while having the chance to chat with some fun folks. By the time the clock struck 8 we hadn’t even seen everything and surly couldn’t enter Context, which also closes at 8pm. To me this fair is akin to going to the Louvre, where I really enjoy the experience but will never be able to afford anything on display. I would like to make an offer on this great painting by Adrien Brody, maybe I can make a deal.
Because Superfine has hours till…whenever we were able to stop back in for some performance art and another look at the work on the walls. Please make the time to stop in and support these folks because you will not be disappointed, you may even be surprised like we were with the performances. My apologies for my lacking captions, I didn’t have time to take note of everything I like or write them in this am.
