Baghead is a Miami based artist who we have admired for some time. This past November he had his first home based solo exhibition, titled Shadowplay at Super Chief Gallery in Wynwood. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few months back, while he was preparing for the event. He was super laid back and friendly; no visible pressure or stress. In the end, Shadowplay proved to be an immersive experience with perhaps his largest collection on display in one room. The space was surrounded by a K-9 guarded fence with Baghead‘s work hanging along the walls. He also featured a King Kong sized cobra together with furniture that doubled as skateboard ramps.
We met up with Baghead at Superchief Gallery in December to talk. We learned about his development as an artist, his inspirations, and work process. He had a rewarding end to a productive 2019 coupled by the success of Shadowplay, together with the release and selling out of Spitfire, a boutique toy he designed. Baghead‘s passion for his art and determination to constantly raise his own bar are inspiring. We hope you enjoy our conversation and we look forward to what Baghead has in store for 2020.
