Oscar Fuentes aka the Biscayne Poet is Miami’s most interesting man. Born in Manhattan, he relocated to the Magic City at age 7 and spent over two decades living a stones throw from Biscayne Boulevard. Miami’s famed corridor, known for its Mimo architecture and mid-century motels has been the crux to Fuentes inspiration, thus his namesake. His style is welcoming and profound, while the backdrop is often familiar. The audience connects to his themes of love, food, and heartbreak all over the Magic City. “As artists, our responsibility is to be extremely transparent and honest with ourselves when describing what we see, feel and live… to the point that we become universal.”
Oscar walked us through the evolution of his artistry, a path that began with him scribbling into journals and led to him publishing three of his own books. Recently the path has led him to video collaborations with Cuban Hip Hop artist Lemar Leroux as well as his band the Oscar Fuentes Combo.
