The Centro Cultural Español Miami (CCEMiami) have been putting on stellar cultural events in Miami for several years. I’ve had the pleasure of attending: the Micro Theater, gallery openings, musical presentations, and just a couple of weeks ago: Recent Cinema from Spain. As a follow up to the Recent Cinema from Spain series CCEMiami presents the United States premier of “La Guitarra Vuela. Soñando a Paco de Lucía”, a film by Javier Limón & Jorge Martínez .
The film is a musical journey of the protagonist “La Maestro”, a guitar built by Mallorca based Luthier, Antonio Morales. Morales built the guitar specifically for Flamenco great, Paco de Lucia who tragically died of a heart attack at age 66, prior to having a chance to play it. The camera follows “La Maestro” which travels through 9 countries in 2 continents, for thousands of kilometers. In these travels the guitar is played in homage to de Lucía by some of the legend’s respected friends and fans including: Caetano Veloso, Alejandro Sanz, and Alain Perez . The movie will be screened at the historic Olympia Theater in Downtown Miami this Friday, December 9 at 7pm.
